Freshman year of high school is a confusing time. Teens are trapped in an awkward socialisation period as they transition from child to adult. Rubi Wilkinson and Skyler Lancaster are dating teens experiencing their first year of high school together at Platte County High School. The teens have found each other while trying to find their place within new social circles. Their story is about teenage resiliency and posturing, as the two attempt to define themselves, draw new social boundaries and maintain an identity within their new environment. For both Rubi and Skyler, high school is in some ways a safe haven – a place for escape from the adversity they have overcome in their home lives.
