With the final game of the 1957 N. W. Missouri H.S. Boys Basketball Tournament all tied up in overtime, Grundy E. Newton stepped up to the free-throw line and with the swoosh of the net he became a Platte City hero. Friends for over 30, 40 or 50 years, Grundy Newton, Larry Leachman, and Ray Bogart grew up in Platte City and each have multiple wonderful memories of their youth. Now, in their 60s or 70s, they continue to be close friends, meeting every morning to spin old yarns. For them there is no other place on Earth they would rather spend their retirement.
