“I’ve always wanted to live where I work,” says Ernie Ehlers, a 53-year old co-owner of Ehlers Cattle Company. With 200 head of cattle, 1100 acres and side jobs at neighboring ranches to make ends meet, there’s never a lack of things to do. The Ehlers’ herd is large enough to be considered a mid-sized operation, but they aren’t large enough to hire help, leaving a long list of chores to divide between Ernie and his wife, Kim, who also works full-time as a veterinarian. The daily tasks might seem monotonous, but to Ernie, it’s all a part of the dream.
