September morning light streams through the windows at the Golden farm when all the members of the family gather in the kitchen in a rare moment of peace. Serenity is broken by the first task of the day: chasing the chickens back to the coop. Moments of calm are hard to come by for a household that lives and dies by the calendar. During the day there are animals to care for, rooms to clean, choir practices, cross-country meets: seven different schedules to orchestrate. Joe and Lori keep long hours to make sure none of their five children miss out on opportunities or interests because of the family’s size. Despite the frenzy of activity, they make time for each other.
