Working
for the high school yearbook was Geri Migielicz’s get out jail free
card from 5th period study hall. Although photography was initially an escape
from class it soon became a lifelong passion. She is currently Director
of Photography at the San Jose Mercury News. Under her leadership, the paper
has continued a strong tradition in photojournalism and picture editing
excellence. Previously, she was the first picture editor at the Rocky Mountain
News, and a picture editor and photographer at the Seattle Times. She also
worked as a photographer in St. Joseph, Mo. and Emporia, Ks. She is a graduate
of the University of Missouri School of Journalism and attended graduate
school at Ohio University. She has been a faculty member at the Missouri
Photo Workshop and visiting faculty at the Poynter Institute. She is a founding
board member of Associated Press Photo Managers, an organization of newspaper
photo managers. APPM has been created to promote leadership and communication
skills, and to support the training and development of picture editors. |
