Inspired by his father's newspaper career, Randy Olson first picked up a
camera as a teenager. His first newspaper work was for the high school paper,
"The Echo" and his work continues to resonate throughout the photographic
world. Olson was awarded Newspaper Photographer of the Year in 1992 and
Magazine Photographer of the Year in 2003. He was also awarded an Alicia
Patterson Fellowship to support a seven-year-project documenting a family
with AIDS. His work has earned him a Robert F. Kennedy Award for social
documentary of the disadvantaged, as well as a Nikon Sabbatical in 1996.
His most recent works for National Geographic include a study of the Black
Sea Community and the Civil War in Sudan. Olson is a graduate of the University
of Kansas and the University of Missouri. |
